Nicholas had been at Crossroads for about four years now, four years of being at a school where he was punished for being who he was. He couldn't escape it... He ignored most of the insults thrown at him for being a pushover... He was honestly a pushover he knew it but it didn't bother him. He helped others be happy and that was fine with him...this school needed someone who wanted to help others be happy, even if it cost him his own happiness sometimes... People had given up a lot for him, especially Justis. His twin had given up everything to get revenge for her brother and to make sure he was safe here. He had kept quiet on his homosexuality, protect himself from worse harassment and protect Justis from doing something stupid in order to protect him... He guess he did make himself a target anyways with the fact that he didn't do drugs and rarely drank. People saw him as a wussy and would get mad at him for just that... God he had to get out of here before this place killed him.
The blond sighed rubbing his face. He was so tired of all of this... He wanted to escape…and here at the café he had escaped for a little while. He had come here to read over some of his English homework and enjoy some time away from the University. It was impossible to escape the school completely he could pick out four students and three professors in the crowd of the café. If he just ignored them and read his book, they should leave him alone. He didn’t mind people really, he just knew better than to expect someone to be nice to him. He took a drink of his mocha latte and returned his attention to the book of short stories by Edgar Allen Poe. “Quoth the Raven nevermore..” He read aloud softly.

Harper was working on a rumor for his newspaper, not like anyone would really read it, but he had to do it. Turning down proving a rumor right or wrong was something he didn't have in him. So, in search for the truth, Harper had gotten turned to the Willis Cafe, oddly named after Bruce Willis himself, something about him actually having visited the school in the past. Sadly, there were no documentations that Harper could get at to prove or disprove that statement. It sucked having limited resources within this shit hole. Shoving those thoughts aside, he pushed inside, letting the black soles of his sneakers squeak against the tiles as he stepped in, his baggy blue jeans bunched up around his heels and covered the tongues of his sneaks. A black t-shirt hugged his body and covered the waist of his pants while a notebook was gripped within his right hand, resting it along his forearm while his left jotted down when he looked down. Black brimmed glasses rested upon his nose while his blue eyes stared at the paper for a moment until his pencil lifted from the paper. Staring back at the cafe, Harper jerked his head to the side, attempting to move his black hair out of his face, with little luck as the black and crimson locks settled back over his right eye.
Walking further inside, he came up to the table Nicholas was sitting at and without a word, he sat down right across from Nick. "So, do you believe in truth as much as I do?" he instantly asked as he rested his notebook upon the table. He had no fears of Nick reading it, because if he did, all he would see were a bunch of mix-matched words splattered upon the paper. Nothing would make sense, least not to him. Smiling, Harper spoke some more, "You're the twin brother of Justis Abrams, no? I have a few questions for you, it's for my newspaper the Blind Truth. So if you would be kind, I can ask my questions and get my answers. That or I could go around you and your sister to get the answers I want. Would be asking your sister, but she's a bit harder to find," he spoke. It was rare for Harper to say this much at once, unless it was in the pursuit of truth!

Nicholas looked up from "The Tale-Tell Heart" as the black haired boy with the black rimmed glasses sat down across from him. He had seen this boy around before and knew that this boy liked to stick his nose in placed where it didn't belong. He didn't mind if the boy sat here..not like Nicholas would make him leave anyways if he did. He looked back down at his book thing about how the boy was rather cute when he was asked if he believed in the truth. The truth was relative and varied on person to person. "Yes I believe in the truth.." He responded not looking up from his book even when he heard the notebook being placed on the table. Seemed the boy didn't plan on leaving any time soon...
He looked back up at the boy as the journalist, yes he had read the paper once, said he was the twin of Justis. Yes, that was rather obvious, they did look a lot alike. "I know about your paper, read it once or twice." He said feeling slightly threatened by the boy's statement. He laughed softly though at the mention of Justis. The girl would only be found if she wanted to be. "I will answer your questions I feel comfortable answering." He responded marking his page before closing his book.

Watching every motion Nick did, Harper idly took notes, quite literally too, as his pencil jotted down every action Harper wanted to remember. As if somehow it would piece together some mystery, either one he had or one he would have. Yes, Harper thought long term truth, something no one did, at least no one he knew did. With Nick staying he believed in truth, Harper smiled softly as his eyes lifted from his paper and stared at Nick, "Good," he then hoped that would make this go quick with little problems. Those who said no to believing in truth tended to be more difficult with him and quite reluctant to answer his questions. Not like it mattered though, Harper knew other ways of finding the truth, this was just the easiest. Making a final note upon the paper, he flipped it to a new section of the notebook, a page that was empty and smiled happily as he watched Nick. Hearing that Nick had read his paper once or twice, Harper nodded softly, "That's good, than you know what I'm about." Now it was time for the questions, finding the truth at any cost, it didn't matter if Nick was hurt by any of these questions...because Harper just wanted the truth!
"Okay, first and foremost, your sister has a temper, right? Least that's what I'd gather from the rumors," he idly started off with, figuring he would work his way into everything. "Is it also true that she had beaten up several guys at once to get sent to this school?" Harper let the questions come out of his lips while his pencil got ready to jot down the answers in his wonderfully cryptic language. Harper had to always remind himself of not writing his cryptic language when he was doing English reports, for he had gotten F's for random words upon several of his reports. It was hard to go from his cryptic, perfectly understandable language to the normal English vocabulary way. Like a foreign trying to speak English after having spent years speaking their own.

Nicholas hummed as the boy went on about it being good that he believed in the truth and that he had read the paper. Hm, yes yes, all rather wonderful. He wished that the boy would just get to the question. He needed to read for English and these questions were taking up his time. He took a drink of his coffee drink, a blended frozen caramel flavored drink, smiling up at the boy. He should just be nice and answer the boy's questions quickly.
Nicholas laughed softly at the boy's statement. Justis had more than just a temper, the girl had a rage problem. Both Abrams children knew that and found it rather funny. "Yes, she does have a temper and has decked many a guy since she came here." He laughed smiling at the journalist. "The boys she's hit all deserved it according to her. She believes in firm justice for all" He said looking up at Harper. "It's not that big of a secret though." He finished with a smile waiting for the next question, hoping they were all this easy.

All Harper was doing right now were simple questions to confirm everything he had, after all, it was better from the horse's mouth than the master's lips. Nodding, Harper let his pen stay on stand by as he didn't write anything as Nick went on answering the questions. So now it was time to be hard hitting, ask the questions that normal journalists probably wouldn't even dare think, "Alright, thanks for that confirmation, now let's go into the whys. Did she beat up the guys before she was sent here because of something they did to you?" he asked right away, "or did she do it because you two are lovers as well as twins?" the questions came off his tongue so easily as if he was thinking about them for a long time. Harper had ceased his interrogation for the time being, giving Nick time to comprehend and answer the questions or throw a fit about the ridiculous accusations Harper was giving. All this has happened before, but this was part of a journalist's life, especially the good ones. When talking to the horse, you had to expect to get spat on or else you weren't doing your job right.
With the pause ending, Harper decided to continue with some more questions, "Your sister's belief in firm justice is wonderful, but what started this belief? What was the catalyst?" he now asked, curious to know if Nick knew or if he would just lie. That's what Harper hated most though, people lying to him. Giving Nick some more time, Harper stared down at his notebook as he started up a series of quick questions, "What's your name, age, grade, birthday and sexual preference?" Harper let the questions go off his tongue quick, in hopes of catching Nick off guard and speak all truth since name, age and everything was simple truths, but the last one was the one people sometimes lied about, especially if they were gay and didn't want anyone else to know.

It took a lot to make Nicholas angry. But this little..jerk!.. How dare he! This boy barely knew him or his sister and was asking these personal question! Nick wanted to hit the boy over the head with his book and break those stupid little glasses. He tried not to think of why Justis beat the boys up, but it was something he knew he could never forget however much he wanted to forget it. It didn't help that people asked him about it making him think of it! "She beat them up because the Justice system failed in prosecuting them after they had broken the law." He said calming down. He could just skirt the truth, giving the boy little bits and pieces to keep him happy. It was like a child with candy, give them lots of little pieces until they got sick from eating to much and then would leave the candy alone. He knew that was an awful analogy but he didn't really care at the moment, it was all in his head anyways.
"My sister has always believed that people should get what the deserve. Our parents taught us that justice is the only thing holding society together." He said not to worried about that answer. These were the same answers Justis would have given him he was sure and they were the truth. Justis, unlike his twin, told the truth. She had nothing to hide. "My name is Nicholas Abrams, I am a 17 year old senior born on May 31st and I like the opposite sex." He said smoothly. Ah, sneaky one this boy was. Trying to tricking him into saying he was gay. He had been lying the past four years to the staff here though and had gotten very good at it.

Taking a few idle notes on what Nick was saying, Harper paused a moment and jotted down a little question upon his paper. Nick saying that she beat them up because the justice system failed meant she knew their trials. Sure people could sit in, but no one ever went to EVERY single one. "How did she know than? If the justice system failed, only those in it or watching, assuming they let it be public, know what happened. Sure word of mouth travels, but she wouldn't know them by face unless they were pointed out. Which would make that person an accomplice," Harper mused out loud in an idle question and idle thought. The boy seemed to be telling the truth, but there was still something bugging Harper about Nick's words. It was his gut telling him that there was more to the story then what was being let on. Either Nick spills the beans or Harper will have to do some heavy research and maybe even ask for outside influences from the Vice-Principal himself, which was not something he looked forward to. That man was scary, course he also had a daughter in the place, perhaps he could get her to help him. For now, Nick's answer would make the difference of what Harper would do next.
Listening to Nick's explanation about his sister's right and wrong desires, he nodded softly and shrugged with the last bit of information. "I believe in justice as much as the next man. Evil can never go unpunished, but I wouldn't go as far as it holding society together. It just keeps it function in the most dis-functional manner. That's why there are criminals, mob bosses that can get away with breaking the law. Doing deeds that are far beyond wrong and have those of the law, look the other way. Personally, if I could get my hands on one of them...they wouldn't be seeing the inside of a hospital," Harper stated truthfully and rather darkly as he stared up at Nick, "They'll just be seeing their own demise." Harper was a hardcore justice man, he wouldn't just right the unjust acts, he'd go that extra mile and turn those unjust acts into something that's right. Be that one man that would stand up against evil, no matter the cost to himself. If people were going to learn, they needed to learn quick, killing them would do just that. Humanity has one thing in common with each other...they want to live. That is the weakness Harper would prey upon in order to bring justice to the world itself. Sad he was the only one who believed those extremes where needed.
Pushing those thoughts aside, he focused back on Nick as he answered the series of questions and came out surprising different from what Harper was expecting. Nodding gently, Harper closed his notebook and slide his pencil into the spine of the book. "Real shame, was hoping for a nice date with a cute guy. Oh well, guess I'll have to look else where," he stated idly as he gave Nick a soft smile, one that said he was sad, yet satisfied enough. Holding out his right hand, Harper spoke up again, "Thank you for your time and your words. Oh, and do you think you could get me a personal interview with your sister? I always like being thorough, makes the truth easier to tell," he stated with his smile getting a bit brighter, hoping it would be possible.

Nicholas has decided that Harper though he could outsmart anyone. To bad for Harper, no one could outsmart Nicholas. He smiled at the boy as he gave his reasons on how Justis could not possibly know that the justice system had failed. "My sister was sadly a witness to an event and knew they were not brought to justice." He replied wishing the boy would just drop it! What did he expect? 'Oh my sister found me after I was beat and raped and decided to attack the boys after they were not punished by the courts since I was to afraid to speak against them.' He thought getting agitated with the other boy. No Harper would not get that information. The boy would publish his story and would get him in more attacks.
"You have the right to your own opinions and we have the right to ours. You should know that you are a journalist after all. Its all about opinions and facts." He said shrugged at Harper's response to the statement on his sister's views. He doubted that Justis really cared either. He smiled and shook his head sympathizing with Harper that the boy couldn't find a cute boy to date. He couldn't tell if Harper was really gay or not. But he didn't really care, sure the boy was cute, and sure he would like to go out on a date with him... He couldn't though. Nicholas did not trust Harper and probably would not trust him ever unless proven otherwise. "I"m sure you can find someone here for you. Maybe you should put a personal ad out in the paper?" He suggested smiling. He took the other boy's hand shaking it to show that he was welcome to help. "I'll send her your way. I can't promise she'll go through with an interview." He said taking his hand back. Knowing Justis she would probably refuse and get angry with Nicholas for letting someone ask him such personal questions.

Watching Nick carefully, Harper found himself jotting down a few things about Nick's reactions, the idle tension within the boy's eyes, the stress rippling over his muscles. It wasn't that Nick was nervous, no, he was getting mad. Harper had seen it enough times to know when someone was going to punch him in the face. A few more buttons and Harper may just get that right here and now. So instead of pushing any further, he simply nodded and let that subject die. He'll get what he needed from some other source, Harper needed to know the truth and Nick was clearly leaving something out. The sting in Harper's gut told him that. Coughing softly to himself, he tried to keep himself on track and not question Nick any further on the last subject as he tried to distract himself. Oh, it was so hard, the truth was right there before him, just not coming out! Why couldn't he just beat Nick up and get what he wanted! Easy, it would be unjust to beat up an innocent man, no matter how badly he wanted the truth, he had to obey the rules of life, of society, of life.
When Nick spoke about Harper's view points, he gave a resounding laugh and shook his head, "Opinions and facts may be my tools, but for me, it's about the truth and justice. If you were to read more then a few copies of my newspaper, you'd notice how I leave certain subjects out. I cannot print anything that would put someone else in danger, but I still need to know the truth. That way, I can lie to protect them," he stated truthfully. One wouldn't believe how many gay guys and girls were actually on campus to this very day and Harper knew almost all of them already, well, the ones that were trying to hide it. As Nick spoke about putting an ad in the personals, he laughed softly, "I'll make sure to do the same for you, since the only girl you seem to touch is your own sister," he stated rather bluntly. Smiling at Nick, Harper nodded firmly, "I'll be looking forward to seeing your sister and hopefully the only comment I get from her is not just from her fist," he joked idly.
